Alliance congratulates Haisla Nation and partner on Cedar LNG decision

A message from Karen Ogen, Alliance CEO:

The Alliance heartily congratulates the Haisla Nation, Cedar LNG, and Pembina Pipeline Corporation on their announcement that the Cedar LNG project will go ahead.

The positive Final Investment Decision (FID) means a greater future for the Haisla People, bringing them opportunities and benefits and revenues.

But it also means much more than that: As Chief Councillor Crystal Smith says, it is “trail-blazing a path for economic independence” for her nation.

It shows how industry and Indigenous communities can work successfully together, partnering on the road to economic reconciliation.

And it also means responsible and cost-competitive Canadian LNG for overseas markets.

It is truly historic: a project that is majority-owned by the Haisla Nation, in partnership with Pembina.

Chief Crystal is also chair of our First Nations LNG Alliance. In working with her, I have long seen and  appreciated her wisdom and her dedication, her commitment to her Haisla people and to their future, and to First Nations other than her own.

I and the Alliance much look forward to Cedar LNG going into operation in late 2028, and to the beneficial impact it will have on her nation and other nations in British Columbia.
